The Lord brought our first daughter, Bailey, into our lives just after we lost a baby in the early months of pregnancy.  Now, God doesn’t see things the way we do.  While I’m crying my eyes out and trying to understand why God would choose such darkness and deep sorrow for one of His children, God was working to form our daughter Bailey in her birth mother’s womb.

I thought adoption would never be an option for us because it is so expensive. One day while doing a friend's dishes, she said she knew of a girl considering placing her baby for adoption… And, why don’t I go talk with her?  So, long story short, I met Michelle and she loved me from the moment I said hello.

Bailey was born right around the time that our baby who was with Jesus would have been born.  Our children and their birth stories testify to the beauty of open adoption and the faithfulness of the Lord. His working in our life is undeniable.

For the first four years of Bailey's life, our openness in our adoption consisted of photos mailed once a year and the occasional drop-in visit to Michelle's home. Michelle had a daughter a year after giving birth to Bailey and chose to parent her.

When Bailey was four, all the walls of fear dropped and we now have a constant relationship filled with visits, outings together, over-night stays, etc. Our families are very close.

This year, we met Bailey's birth father and his family. We are now in the process of connecting our families and establishing a wonderful relationship with them.

So many adoptive families fear the range of openness that we have with our children's birth families, but we have come to understand that it is not something to fear; it rather is something to cherish. There is so much beauty in open adoption.

Through the telling of our story, we've found opportunities to share the reason for our hope.  I believe, very strongly, that the impact of the message we share will change lives.  I'm called to speak and will go wherever the Lord opens a door.  Our truth will testify of what the Lord can and will do with a life surrendered to Him.  We pray for the Lord to open the eyes and hearts of those willing to listen.  Thank you, and may God bless you,
