I am often asked, “Why do you call yourselves Living Stones?”

One night while reading in the book of Joshua, I read how the Lord told Joshua, to lead His people across the Jordan river and into the Promise land. This was a very scary event. The river was racing with waters that were over flowing its banks. It would be an act of sheer trust and faith in the Lord Jehovah to make it to the other side and not get swept away by the raging waters to certain death.

The Lord had sworn to bring them into the promised land that was on the other side. Joshua believed the Lord at His word. In faith, the priest carrying the Arc of the Covenant; stepped into the water. Once their feet touched the water, it receded. The Israelites walked through the Jordan on a dry river bottom. Before the waters were released again to flow, the Lord instructed Joshua to have 12 men, one from each tribe, pick up a stone from the midst of the river bed and carry it to the other side. Stacking these twelve stones would serve as a memorial testifying of the mighty hand of God. For generations to come, fathers would answer their children’s questions as to what these stones meant that they too, would know the mighty hand of the Lord.

After reading these passages and pondering upon these stones myself, I sensed the Lord tell me to look up the word stones in my Bible concordance. There was another reference to stones in the New Testament.

If so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious.
To whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men,
but chosen of God, and precious,
Ye also, as living stones are built up a spiritual house,
an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices,
acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.

I Peter 2:3-5

These stones, unlike the ones taken from the midst of the Jordan, were living. A life disallowed (rejected) by men, but chosen of God and precious. They are for a purpose. These living stones build up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, that offers up spiritual sacrifices that God accepts through Jesus Christ.

As I read this passage, the Lord spoke to me. “Your children are the living stones that will testify to others of what God can do in the darkened situation and of how I can bring that person safely through the raging waters of life to the calming banks of the other side. And they will know the mighty hand of the Lord forever.”

The Living Stones ministry believes that every life is precious and each person surrendered to the Lord, Jesus Christ will be a life that will testify of His greatness. We have tasted that the Lord is gracious and mighty in power. We will forever be accepted into His spiritual house, holy priesthood and forever offer up acceptable spiritual sacrifices to Him through Jesus Christ.
